President-Elect

The President-Elect serves as the IDEC BOD representative overseeing Governance and Communications. In the absence or disability of the President, the President-Elect performs the duties and responsibilities of the President.

Secretary-Treasurer

The Secretary/Treasurer oversees the areas of correspondence and finance.

Director of Professional Development

The Professional Development Collaborative supports IDEC members’ professional development and interpersonal connections occurring across or outside the boundaries of Teaching and Research. Initiatives promote the careers of our members through awarding excellence, promoting mentorship, and supporting professional development across members’ careers from students to leadership. The Director works with the Professional Development Collaborative Coordinator and the Collaborative’s committee chairs to direct these efforts.

Service Collaborative Volunteering and Leadership Opportunities

The IDEC Service Collaborative supports IDEC member professional development and interpersonal connections. Our initiatives promote the careers of our members through awarding excellence, promoting mentorship, and fostering networks around areas of interest. All chairs on the Service Collaborative receive abundant support of our team and will be warmly welcomed to our monthly virtual gatherings. We have openings for several leadership positions on the collaborative. Please see the open positions and a link to a detailed description of the role.

IDEC Awards Chair or Co-Chair

The Awards Committee plays a critical role in recognizing excellence in teaching, research, and service across the IDEC membership and partnering organizations. The majority of awards administered by the IDEC organization are managed by this committee, and include the IDEC awards for: Teaching Excellence, Scholarship Excellence, Book, Media, Community Service, and Partners in Education. You can see the details of these Awards on the IDEC Awards page. Key responsibilities of this role include preparing the call for nominations and administering the process of collecting, jurying and presenting the awards. The chair(s) of this initiative will work closely with the members of the Service Collaborative team to advance goals through regular virtual meetings. The chair(s) are appointed by the IDEC president to a two-year term, which is renewable. The time commitment is approximately 1-2 hours/month, which increases to approximately 2-3 hours/week during the process of jurying nomination packets (typically from December-February). Two positions are open.

Emerging Educator Professional Development Chair or Co-Chair

This initiative within the Service Collaborative is dedicated to supporting the professional development of IDEC members with a focus on emerging educators, including graduate students, professionals transitioning to education, and undergraduate students considering a future career in education. Professional members and graduate student members alike are encouraged to chair or co-chair this initiative.  Key responsibilities of this role include the coordination of IDEC 101 events and the professional development events that occur in-person at the annual conference (e.g., CV review, networking events, informative presentations or panels). Thus, plans to attend the national conference in person are an important dimension of accepting this role. The chair(s) of this initiative will work closely with the members of the Service Collaborative team to advance goals through regular virtual meetings. The chair(s) are appointed by the IDEC president to a two-year term, which is renewable. The time commitment is approximately 1-2 hours/month, which increases to approximately 2-3 hours/week during the process of planning events for the annual conference (typically from December-March). Two positions are open.

Knowledge Networks Co-Chair

Knowledge Networks are special interest groups within IDEC that provide a venue for members to come together to discuss ideas, issues, teaching, and scholarship around a central topic. The networks are meant to be fluid and ever-changing to reflect interests and concerns of the membership. This co-chair will work with the current chair to manage the smooth functioning of the networks. It is helpful for the person in this role to attend the national conference. The chair(s) of this initiative will work closely with the members of the Service Collaborative team to advance goals through regular virtual meetings. The chair(s) are appointed by the IDEC president to a two-year term, which is renewable. The time commitment is approximately 1-2 hours/month, which increases to approximately 2-3 hours/week during the process of planning events for the annual conference (typically from January-March). One position open.
