Teaching Excellence Award

Description

The Teaching Excellence Award recognizes an individual’s or team’s success in the development, innovation, and delivery of a specific educational experience that yields exceptional student learning. Any IDEC member in good standing can make a nomination for the IDEC Teaching Excellence Award. Individuals can be nominated or self-nominate.

Please note that the intent of this award is to recognize the contribution of a specific teaching innovation, not an evaluation of the candidate’s career accomplishments beyond the innovation itself. Please ensure that the candidate’s submitted CV reflects any items related to the teaching innovation such as related funding, conference presentations, exhibits, and/or publications.

Eligibility

  • IDEC member in good standing
  • IDEC member for at least two years
  • If a team is being nominated, one team member must meet the above qualifications and have made significant contributions to the development and delivery of the educational experience.
  • The educational experience must be associated with an established interior design program within higher education.

Criteria

  • Articulation of the purpose, methods, and outcomes of the experience
  • Relevance experience to interior design
  • Effective and innovative method/technique that yields exceptional student learning outcome(s)
  • Specific teaching excellence documented by development and repetition of a teaching effort such as a project, assignment, exercise, field trip, evaluations etc.

Submission Requirements

Each nomination shall contain the following information:

  • Nomination Letter: Submit a nomination letter (not to exceed 750 words) that addresses the above criteria the distinguished achievement in the development of a specific teaching innovation related to the interior environment and its contribution to the discipline of interior design.
  • Nominee CV
  • Narrative (from Nominee): The nominee must submit a narrative (not to exceed 750 words) that clearly articulates the purpose, methods, and outcomes of the educational experience.
  • Supporting Documentation: Provide up to 20 pages of supporting documentation that could include examples of student work, syllabi, handouts, student evaluations, etc.
  • Support Letters from up to 3 References: Support letters should speak to the specific educational experience and award criteria (not to exceed 500 words). At least one of the letters should be a student who participated in the educational experience.
  • All submission documents should be uploaded as a single PDF file.

Evaluation

A jury of professionals (previous awardees and/or IDEC members knowledgeable in the area of submission) will review all nominations and evaluate based on a common rubric. Final award nominees are presented to the IDEC Board of Directors for approval and ratification. Award winners will be publicly celebrated at the annual conference and will be announced to the full international IDEC community.

Service Commitment to Continued Excellence

Please note that awardees will be asked to maintain a service commitment to this award for three years following the award acceptance. This service ensures sustained knowledge and excellence in the review process. A willingness to participate will be requested prior to the subsequent year’s awards review.
