Dr. Michelle Pearson is an Associate Professor and the Interior Design Program Director in the Department of Design at Texas Tech University. She holds a Ph.D. in Interior Environmental Design and an M.S. in Environmental Design, both from Texas Tech University, where she also earned her Bachelor of Interior Design with a minor in Architecture. Her research focuses on designing environments that integrate natural elements to promote well-being, particularly in pediatric and healthcare settings.
Dr. Pearson’s scholarly pursuits include exploring the impact of window murals on patient experiences, employing virtual reality to evaluate built environments, and collaborating on the design of a Malawian Early Childhood Development Center. She is a co-author of Designing for Autism Spectrum Disorders, an award-winning book recognized by leading organizations in the field. Her work has been widely published in academic journals, trade publications, and conference proceedings.
A dedicated educator, Dr. Pearson teaches both graduate and undergraduate courses while mentoring doctoral and master’s students. She has been instrumental in fostering inclusive and innovative learning environments through her service as the Professional Development Collaborative Coordinator for the Interior Design Educators Council (IDEC). She is a member of numerous professional organizations and a graduate of the Texas Tech University President’s Leadership Institute and the Institute of Inclusive Excellence. Dr. Pearson’s contributions to academia and professional practice reflect her commitment to advancing design that enriches lives and communities.
