CALL FOR INNOVATIVE TEACHING IDEAS

SUBMISSION DEADLINE: JUNE 2, 2025

Inspire the next generation

The Interior Design Educators Council (IDEC) is now accepting submissions for the 2025 Innovative Teaching Ideas (ITI) Collection. We invite interior design educators from around the world to submit creative and effective teaching projects, assignments, or learning activities designed to inspire the next generation of interior design students.

Why Submit?
  • Peer Review: All submissions undergo a double-blind review by a panel of respected interior design educators.
  • Support Your Career: Inclusion may qualify for recognition in academic promotion and tenure evaluations, based on your institution’s guidelines.
  • Lead the Future of Design Education: Showcase your role as a thought leader committed to advancing teaching and learning in interior design.
What is an Innovative Teaching Idea?

An ITI is a thoughtfully designed educational activity – such as a project, lesson, or assignment – that fosters creativity, engagement, and deep learning in interior design education, particularly for youth.

Join a global network of educators committed to collaboration and excellence in design education. Share your innovative teaching approach and help shape the future of the profession.

We welcome diverse and innovative approaches that enhance teaching and learning in interior design – whether through emerging technologies, interdisciplinary collaborations, sustainability-driven pedagogy, hands-on experiential learning, or other cutting-edge strategies.

We invite you to share your creative and impactful teaching ideas to foster collaboration and innovation.

REQUIREMENTS

To assure blind review, submissions must NOT include author(s) name(s), institutional affiliation(s), course numbers, or any other forms of identification. Submissions that do not satisfy all requirements will be disqualified from review. All submissions must be made through the online submission form. The online submission form provides further instruction regarding submission requirements. Only submissions received through the online process will be accepted for review.

LIMITS AND FEES

To support broad representation among educators, a limit is imposed on the maximum number of Innovative Teaching Ideas submitted each year. Authors serving in the role of primary author are limited to two (2) submissions annually. IDEC members may submit up to two ideas without charge. Non-IDEC members may submit up to two ideas for a review fee of $20 for each idea.

CRITERIA FOR REVIEW

Ideas are reviewed for their attendance to excellence and innovation. Reviewers will use the following criteria to assess each submission and make recommendations for acceptance.

  • The ITI demonstrates an innovative teaching and learning method or approach
  • The ITI is well organized, clear, and appropriate for the intended audience and age level.
  • The ITI includes clear and comprehensive directions with examples on how to execute the project, lesson, or activity.
  • The ITI adds significant value to the current state of Interior Design education.
  • The ITI lends itself to easy adoption by K-12 educators, IDEC members, industry professionals, and the broader community.
