Position Description:
The Department of Design seeks an energetic faculty member to join a dynamic Interior Design program. The successful applicant will contribute to the university’s mission through teaching, research, and service by serving as a faculty member in the Interior Design program, and will have opportunities to teach graduate and undergraduate courses in Interior and Environmental Design.
The Department of Design, housed in The College of Human Sciences, serves approximately 300 undergraduate students (Interior Design and Apparel Design and Manufacturing Programs) and 30 graduate students (Interior and Environmental Design Programs). We are recruiting faculty who will provide cutting-edge opportunities for bright students while pursuing research, scholarship, and creative activities. New faculty are strongly supported. Generous research and seed grants, and research start-up packages are provided, and the Teaching Learning and Professional Development Center offers a variety of excellent services and training for faculty.
Texas Tech is one of the state’s major universities (40,322 students) consisting of 10 colleges, the Graduate School, the School of Law, and the School of Veterinary Medicine. Located on the same campus, the Texas Tech Health Sciences Center includes the Schools of Medicine, Pharmacy, Nursing, and Allied Health. Texas Tech is located in the West Texas High Plains city of Lubbock (population 260,823), which has excellent medical facilities, a low cost of living, and a semi-arid, sunny, and mild climate. Lubbock is within driving distance to Dallas, Austin, Santa Fe, and other major metropolitan cities.
Minimum Qualifications and Responsibilities:
All applicants should have earned a terminal degree (Ph.D, MFA), by appointment time, in Interior Design or related field. At least one degree (undergraduate or graduate) must be in interior design. Preference will be given to candidates with a strong background in design theory including two-dimensional and three-dimensional visualization (both manual and digital) and advanced technology. Teaching experience preferred. NCIDQ certification preferred. The candidate will be expected to teach all courses levels and chair thesis and dissertation projects while providing service to the Department, the College, and the University as appropriate. Applicants who have strong records of scholarship supported by extramural funding and who have the proven capacity or clear potential to bring externally sponsored research to Texas Tech University are encouraged to apply. Service duties include program-building, as well as the commitment to extra-curricular activities.
