2019 Pacific West Regional Conference

Social Activism in Interior Design Education

October 17-18

Los Angeles, California

Join us in Los Angeles where the spirit of activism, civic engagement, and social responsibility are common themes among small businesses and rising industries.  We will engage with designers, educators, and collaborators whose stories are the same:  Social impact is at the center of their mission.

This conference invites scholarship and dialogue around the following questions:

  1. As design educators, how do we engage our students to design through activism?
  2. How does interior design affect positive change in our communities?
  3. What is the role of interior design in addressing contemporary issues such as civic engagement, civility, climate change, community activism, community building, cross discipline, cultural identity, environment, gender issues, human services, health resources, immigration, inclusion, native social responsibility, prejudice, rural community equity, safety, sustainability?
  4. What are best practices and lessons learned from studio and community projects? What is the student learning experience in working on such projects?
