1963 Milestones

Officers present the preliminary Constitution as the first order of business. Shortly thereafter, the “Constitution and By-Laws of the Interior Design Educators Council” is presented to the membership. The first Constitution identified the organization’s purpose as the “improvement of interior design education,” the enhancement of “communication between individuals, educational institutions, and organizations in interior design,” and the improvement of “the professional level of interior design.” Eventually the By-Laws become a separate document with ongoing revisions.

Our official host was Professor Joseph Carreiro at the Philadelphia School of Art. … We had some formal presentations and spent a great deal of time discussing the mission of our new group, and its name: IDEC.” Arnold Friedmann
